Summary |
|
The initials SIDN stand for Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland – the Foundation for Internet Domain Registration in the Netherlands. The organisation has been responsible for issuing and registering .nl domain names since 1996. The requirements for the registration of a .nl domain name were reduced on February of 2003, and now, it suffices to have an administrative contact with place of business/residence in the Netherlands to register under the .nl ccTLD. Today, there are more than 1 330 000 registered domain names under the Top Level Domain .nl, and the growth rate is of 27 283 new domain names per month (based on the 2004 monthly average newly registered names). The ccTLD .nl was established by the Internic on April the 25th 1986 (the 2nd oldest in Europe after the .uk ccTLD) and was originally managed by the CWI: Centre for Mathematics and Information Technology.
