Summary |

The French registry agency since 1997 is AFNIC, Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, a non-for-profit organization. Applicants to a .fr ccTLD must be a french company or a French subsidiary company of a foreign company, or owner of an international trademark. Trademarks in the .tm.fr-subdomain must be registered in France. For the other sub-domains it is necessary to be in the specific areas (e.g. .aeroport.fr .assedic.fr .asso.fr .avoues.fr). Today, there are approximately 333 424 registered domain names under the Top Level Domain .fr, and the growth rate is of 12 107,50 new domain names per month (based on the 2004 monthly average newly registered names). The ccTLD .fr was established by the Internic on September the 2nd 1986 and was first managed by the INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique). |
