Summary |
|
The ccTLD .mt was established by the Internic on December the 2nd 1992 and has ever since been managed by the University of Malta. NIC(Malta) is responsible for administration of the .mt domain. It currently engages in the maintenance and enforcement of the .mt domain naming policy; maintenance of the .mt name server; promotion of the .mt domain; provision of a directory of registered names; preparation of technical support material pertaining to domain name service administration and registration of new domain names. Registration of a domain name must be under one of the following domains: .org.mt, .com.mt, .net.mt, .edu.mt, .tm.mt (trademarks,) and .uu.mt (miscellaneous). Very strict laws are enforced for the registration under these domains. International organizations can register a domain under selected *.mt domains, but a point of contact in Malta is required. There are currently about 2500 domain names registered under the .mt ccTLD.
