The German registry agency is the DENIC: “German Network Information Centre,” a not-for-profit cooperative established in 1997. Its membership is comprised of companies and institutions who administer domains for their customers and who feel an active commitment to providing, within the principles of self-regulation, a key service for the whole German Internet Community - namely, operation of the registry for the German Top Level Domain .de. Registration of the .de ccTLD is open for everyone, However, if the applicant is not registered in Germany (corporation/legal entity) or is not a German resident (natural person), a person authorized to receive service of legal processes on you behalf (a German resident) must be given with their address acting as "admin-c". Today, there are more than 8.359.807 registered domain names under the Top Level Domain .de. Every month, an average of about 50,000 .de domains is registered. This numbers make the .de ccTLD the second most popular after the famous .com. The ccTLD .de was established by the Internic on November the 5th 1986 and was first managed by the “Informatikrechner-Betriebsgruppe” (IRB) of Dortmund University. |
